Hello, welcome to my English 130 Portfolio! My name is Alejandra Montes and I am a student at CSU-Chico. I am 18 years old born in Tepetongo Zacatecas, Mexico, resident of Altadena, California. I am now at Chico California in the pursue of my dreams. A woman who aspires to be successful and thriving. In this Portfolio you will find some of the writing assignments I completed this semester. Within the documents you will find a Cultural Research Inquiry essay, a Character Study essay and different pieces about cultural research that completed the previous mentioned assignments. As I worked on my Character Study Essay, I felt very connected to this assignment because the movie we evaluated, Sin Nombre, easily connected with my own life story. I am an immigrant in this country, I know the struggles I had to face to reach safe place economically and socially within a foreign culture. Leaving everything behind, the loved ones, the memories, changing a lifestyle in order to follow the American Dream is a true difficulty. I was able to combine the message of the movie and my own experiences in an essay that easily turned into my favorite writing piece. It was as if I had used the essay to pour out my feelings in typed words. The assignments you will find in this portfolio are here because I want to show the improvements of my writing and the writing concepts of my assignments. Personally my biggest frustration regarding an assignment in this portfolio was the inquiry essay. For some reason I have a lot of trouble getting this assignment done. Although I understood the prompt, as I wrote about it I lost track of my ideas and It was hard to get back on topic a way it couldn't explain what I intended to say. Everything you will find in this site was done with effort and enthusiasm. Feel free to comment!
